I made this cake for my husband for our Anniversary this year. This cake doesn’t really look that good because I was trying out some new stuff:
Cake: White Box Cake
Frosting: Marshmallow Frosting – this is more like a meringue recipe (This is another recipe that kind of sounds better)
Fondant: Marshmallow Fondant – I think I didn’t put enough water in the mixture, so it was way to sticky and messy, and very hard to roll out.
I also cheated and used the lego figures instead of decorating the cake, because I am lazy and was frustrated with the fondant.
It is very symbolic: 4 years represented by the 4 layer cake representing the 4 turtles. So deep!
Inspired by my past success with chocolate and vanilla marshmallows, I wanted to make cute heart-shaped strawberry marshmallows. I followed the instructions in Marshmallow Madness, and ended up with something that were neither hearts, nor strawberries nor marshmallows. They in fact, looked like turds and tasted like turds and were disposed off like turds.
So, I brought Marshmallow Madness home from the library, because it was just too pretty not to look at. And it’s puffy to boot, because marshmallows are puffy and so is the book cover – get it? get it? Anyway, it didn’t look too bad, so I thought I would give it a try. In the past reading and then doing something hasn’t worked out for me, so I did some youtube research. I called some friends over on a Sunday morning, fed them breakfast and made them make marshmallows. Tom-Sawyering people is one of my favorite things to do 🙂 🙂 🙂
It was a icky goey crazy process, with a lot of screaming involved (mostly be me, ok only by me). But the dishes were done, and the marshmallow was mallowing and I didn’t have to lift a finger. In the evening, when everyone had gone home I sat and cut out little teddy bears and painted little faces on them with edible markers. I love how they came out.
